Curatorial Statement for DzFest 2024: A Retro Perspective

An immersive celebration of contemporary Algerian culture in the heart of the UK. This year, our theme "A Retro Perspective," explores the inception, prominence and eclipse of a culture, one so widely consumed yet intriguingly unknown to many.

DzFest 2024 marks a significant step in restoring Algerian culture to its former prominence. 

Algeria, with its ancient and beautifully diverse heritage, is at the heart of everything we do at Culturama. Our mission is to honour and celebrate the deep-rooted traditions and contemporary expressions of Algerian culture.

Raucous, expressive and revolutionary: Algeria's Raï music took its place on the United Nations' list of intangible cultural heritage in 2022, we will pay tribute to Raï music and Algerian contemporary culture, featuring the legendary Raïna Raï, the veterans of Raï music. The poignant film "A Little for My Heart and a Little for My God," capturing Raï's cultural essence and through Bled Musique Evening, we embark on a nostalgic journey spotlighting the best Algerian music videos from the 90s and early 2000s, celebrating the enduring legacy of Algerian contemporary music.
